Above is the first Roller I used bak in 1990/91 at Sandgate-Redcliffe District Cricket Club. Chugga was an old ex hire roller with a single cylinder diesel, with forward and reverse with no variable speed. Buderim Cricket club contacted me regarding an Old roller they had been given, from 200 metres away laying under a couple of gum trees I could see it was Chugga, in a very sad state.
Fast forward 6 days and this is how Chugga was returned, 10.5 HP Kohler key start petrol engine with a variable speed Hydrastatic drive running through Torsion chain tensioners. Chugga is now good for another 40 years.
These little machines complement a heavy Roller perfectly, great for starting wickets and removing creases early in preparation. I'm a huge fan of these machines and well worth having them refurbished. Below are pictures of the process, stripping, Sand blasting ( Thermal Edge Coatings at Brendale do All our blasting and paint preparation), painting and retro fitting the new running gear
